Sometimes you just have to take a break from the salads and healthy sandwiches and look for something a little more fulfilling. A sustainable eating plan is only as effective as your commitment. That is why some of the best San Antonio restaurants made this list even though they don’t have a full menu that we could always recommend. When you need a cheat day – check them out!
#1 – The Cove (606 West Cypress, San Antonio, TX). Serves “SOL” Food, as in, Sustainable, Organic and Local foods. The restaurant is great for families with its outdoor garden patio, basketball net, Ping Pong tables and a play area, not to mention a dog run for pets! The menu consists primarily of burgers and tacos, with starters, sides, salads and small kids’ menu. Live music can often be found at the Cove Thursdays through Saturdays. The restaurant is open 11 a.m. to 10 p.m., Tuesday through Thursday, until 11 p.m. on Friday, and noon to 8 p.m. on Sunday. Closed Mondays
#2 – Delivery Market (310 East Houston Street, San Antonio, TX). Grab a bite to bring with to sit along the river, a park, or in the plaza of the Alamo. Delivery Market has sandwiches, salads, soups and pizzas, as well as a store chock full of deli, produce and snack items. If staying in town, they’ll even deliver to your door.
#3 – Guenther House (205 East Guenter, San Antonio, TX). This 1860 home was once the home of the Pioneer Flour Mills’ family and features an award-winning restaurant that is open for breakfast and lunch. Take a tour of the home and the museum, then enjoy a meal in the Art Nouveau-styled space. The restaurant features stained glass and a plant motif that carries outdoors to the covered patio. Breakfast is served all day and includes breakfast tacos, waffles, pancakes and breakfast platters. Lunch items include salads ad enchiladas. The restaurant is open daily from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m.
#4 – Luby’s Cafeteria (911 North Main Avenue, San Antonio, TX). Luby’s has been providing casual American dining for more than 65 years. Recently renovated for a more contemporary look, the dining room can watch the kitchen at work. Serving Comfort Food, diners will find combos, value meals, specials and more that include favorites like Home Style Pot Pie, Luby’s Fried Fish, and Chicken Fried Chicken. Kids 10 and younger can order from the child’s menu, which includes chicken fingers, fried fish, fried or roasted chicken and chopped steak with two sides, Jello, roll and a drink. Luby’s can be found throughout San Antonio, with this Main Avenue location near downtown open from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. daily.
#5 – Rosario’s (910 South Alamo Street, San Antonio, TX). Rated one of the best Mexican restaurants in San Antonio, Rosario’s is located in the Southtown area and features authentic South of the Border cuisine. Diners will find soup, tacos, enchiladas, platters and kids’ meals. Vegetarian and gluten-free options are also available. Rosario’s is open daily at 11 a.m., closing at 10 p.m. on weeknights, 11 p.m. on weekends, and 9 p.m. on Sundays. In the evenings, the restaurant becomes a happening nightclub with dancing.
#6 – Shamu’s Smokehouse (10500 SeaWorld Drive, San Antonio, TX). The smokehouse name says it all: This is where to go for Texas BBQ. Brisket, chicken, pulled pork and spare ribs are all available, as well as salad and kids’ meals.
