Blanca Castro, MSN, RN, FNP-C
Blanca Castro, is a native of South Texas and was born and raised in the border town of Laredo, Texas. Growing up she saw her grandparents and her father struggle with chronic illnesses so directing her studies towards the medical field was the path she decided to take.
She set to San Antonio with the goal to pursue a career in nursing. Starting off at the University of Texas at San Antonio she was then accepted to the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio and completed her Bachelor’s of Science in Nursing in December 2009.
Soon after, her father fell in and lost his battle with cancer in 2011. During this time and the years that followed she worked in her hometown in pediatrics but also gained experience working with different type of patients undergoing gynecological, orthopedic and bariatric procedures.
Her goal always was to continue her studies and pursue a Master’s program in nursing. So after several years as a registered nurse, she decided to return to San Antonio to fulfill that goal. Seeing her father go through such a trying time, obtaining her degree and becoming a family nurse practitioner to help others was a top priority. In 2016, Blanca graduated with her Masters in Nursing and obtained her license and certification as a family nurse practitioner.
Getting to know her patients and their stories is something so important to Blanca since not one patient is the same. Institute for Functional health seemed like a such a good fit because finding the root of the problem is something that has always interested her. Medications are very important in many situations, but prevention is key! It is so amazing how making changes in everyday living can prevent long-term chronic conditions.
Blanca loves spending time with her closest friends, family and soon to be husband! She enjoys Zumba and loves going to the movie theatre.
