The Need for Movement

Our bodies are built to move. More and more today we are falling towards a stationary lifestyle. Many careers take their tolls on our bodies in many different ways. Whether you are sitting at a desk for 8 hours a day or doing manual labor; overuse or underuse can do a lot of damage to our bodies in time. When it comes to recovering from an injury, the need for more movement is vital to successful recovery.

Long term conditions can be caused from sitting at desk jobs such as bursitis and arthritis. Other conditions can include, but not limit to:

  • Hypertension
  • Low back pain
  • Neck pain
  • Obesity
  • Cardiovascular disease

The old way of rehab was to just stay off or rest an injured body part. Here at the Institute for Functional Health we focus on gaining back normal, if not better range of motion. By monitoring pain levels along with treatments, we look into the quickest available window to start active therapy. This involves range of motion, stretching and then strengthening.

To go along with active therapy and treatments, home care programs are also issued out to patients. Call it homework if you will. This component is very important for the patient to do. People will not recover if they just seek treatment alone, you have to be educated on what types of resets to aim at with your muscles, joints and bones.

Bottom line is that rehab is a two way street. Home care and treatments go hand in hand. The need for movement is important to get us living pain free. Here at the Institute for Functional Health we can also give you the right fuel to move via nutrition plans and proper supplements tailored to your individual body. We offer a Free Discovery Day to go over any health concerns you may have, you have nothing to lose and everything to gain. Give it a try today!
