Allison Stepanenko, MSN, RN, FNP-C

Allison Stepanenko grew up in Southern California and moved to Texas for high school where she attended Americas High School in El Paso.  After graduation she moved to San Antonio to attend St. Mary’s University and pursue a Biology degree. During her undergraduate education Allison decided to volunteer at Christus Santa Rosa Hospital where she found a passion for healthcare and was particularly drawn to the nurse-patient relationship.

She graduated from St. Mary’s University with a BA in Biology in 2009, San Antonio College with an ADN in 2012, and UT Health Science Center San Antonio with her Masters of Science in Nursing in 2019.

She spent the last six years of her nursing career in Pediatric ICU's throughout San Antonio at North Central Baptist and The Children’s Hospital of San Antonio.

Allison decided to pursue the Family Nurse Practitioner's career after spending time in pediatrics and seeing the impact that parents and role models have on the learned behaviors of children.

She is a believer of our approach to healthcare here at the Institute for Functional Health and integrates all of her experience into how she cares for our patients.

Allison had unique opportunities to volunteer while in school, including medical screenings in Rockport after Hurricane Harvey, an international collaboration to improve women's health in Jamaica, and serve as a Teaching Assistant to undergraduate nursing students.

Volunteerism and community involvement has remained a constant in her life and now continues at the professional level. She is active in the professional nursing community at the city, state and federal level.

She is a current member of San Antonio Nurses in Advance Practice, the Texas Nurse Practitioner Association and American Association of Nurse Practitioners.  Allison was inducted into Sigma Global Nursing Excellence, an International Nursing Honor Society, in 2018 for her academic excellence in her Bachelors of Science and Masters of Science in Nursing studies.

Outside of work, she is learning to speak Russian to promote her multicultural family, love scuba diving, swimming and biking.
